From the General Manager We are yet again the proud recipients of the Compleat Golfer 5 star award. We were presented this honourable award at a Glittering Awards Evening hosted by Compleat Golfer on the 19th February 2009. The club is featured in both March and April’s publication of Compleat Golfer for those members who receive the magazine. The insert in the magazine says it all! NEWS, NEWS & NEWS THANK YOU to all our Members for ALL YOUR SUPPORT in ALL the EVENTS so far this year. As always, your support is greatly appreciated and goes an extremely long way in the overall success of Atlantic Beach Golf Club. We once again have a great golfing year ahead scheduled with all Member competitions on Thursday, Saturday’s and our very successful Sunday school on a Monthly Basis. Club Championship being our most prestigious and an Honor Board Event in the latter part of April, so if you have not entered please grab a form in the Sports Centre or ask the Ladies to fax it to you, as entries close on the 10th April 2009, we look forward to your continued support and participation. The Celebration week is on May 21st – 23rd. We need the support of all Members to really make this one a huge success. Needless to say, the very trying economic situation has touched almost everyone in South Africa, with Atlantic Beach Golf Club being no different. We know that our members, residents and guests have been impacted in one way or another. Golf Facilities and Communities across this fine country have been forced into challenging times, so let’s at least try making this Celebration Week of 2009 a time to remember for those least privilege than we are. Some updates related to the Golf Course: we are verticutting the Greens and will be doing normal Maintenance leading up to Club Champs, and before we start our winter program. The revetting of the Bunkers will continue but will more than likely only start again in May. Allen Bland has being doing a fine job with the resources at his disposal and I am sure we all agree this is the Best the Course has looked going in to winter. We ask that all Members to please fix pitch marks and fill all divots, by doing this we will have an even better course than what we have now. When the tees were levelled on the golf course, that was the objective – to
get them levelled. Although we planted them with Rye grass this was only done
to get the tees back in play as soon as possible and was not an attempt at
resurfacing the tees and eliminating kikuyu. The objective was to get a level
playing surface and that was all. Regarding the weeds and the kikuyu on the greens this is a timing issue and Allen Bland, our Golf Course Superintendent is dealing with it in his spray program on an ongoing basis. |
