· Amanda Forknall GENERAL MANAGER

Halfway through winter already, over halfway through the year, the time flies by.

We have given our Legends Bar and reception area a facelift, and on the course we have sown indigenous wild flowers, all in preparation for the first day of Spring, which is just around the corner. The Sports Centre also has a new range of bright spring colours, constantly keeping up with the times

July started off quiet, but improved as the month went on. We held a Curry Evening during the month, and from the feedback, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Our popular Supper Club evening was a huge success, our chef Martin Sara continues to surprise us with his culinary skills. We are introducing a Moroccan Evening in the month of August and are planning on alternating this with a Curry Evening. The member event to be held on the 18th of August by popular demand is a Jazz Evening. Please take a look at our website for up to date news on all these exciting upcoming events.

I'm proud to say that although we've had some heavy rainfall during the last couple of weeks of winter, Atlantic Beach have remained open, unlike other courses in the Cape. This is due to the new drainage system we invested in, installed by Shelton Drainage.

During the month I was fortunate to see a new member on our course seconds after being born, a baby Springbok arrived on the 18th hole, an incredible sight. Talking about new members we have 2 new staff on the Team. Karina Verhoustraete our new Food and Beverage Manager and Tracey Fenton in charge of Human Resources.

We look forward to seeing you at our August events, and we remain constantly dedicated to making your experience a special one.

Regards,
Amanda

Top of the day to you all!!!

The Sanlam Cancer Challenge was played on the 14th July and what a wonderful day we had to raise funds for a much deserved cause. Frank, who was the representative for Sanlam on the day, was very impressed with the turnout by Atlantic Beach Members. The winners of the day will represent the Club at the regional finals later in the year and the winners from there will have a paid trip to Durban to compete in the Sanlam Cancer Challenge Finals. Good luck to all.

New Handicap system
The first month of the new Handicap System and there is already a distinctive pattern with the scoring. Medal scores are better because everyone more than likely got a shot or two and feel more comfortable playing off that slightly higher handicap. The betterball scores have come down considerably and it looks like there will hopefully be no more fifty points

Yours in Golf
Tony Louw.
