OCTOBER CELEBRATES THE CLUBS BIRTHDAY

October is birthday month for the club, and we turned 7 this year. We held our Inaugural Cup Golf Event on the 27th October. Thanks to all the members that joined us to celebrate our birthday, and well done to the winners. The winners were Charles Hamman, Dieter Nel, Jack Croome, Stephanus Schoeman. The day’s event was followed by a Halloween Party in the Atlantic Room. We have some very creative innovative members, whose costumes were so outrageous we didn’t recognise them. We also saw the Springboks win the Rugby World Cup! We were proud to host an evening for all our members who are avid Rugby Supporters. I’m sure the boks felt the support and team spirit in our Legends Bar. (The only Englishman to have their hand on the trophy was the engraver). The event took place on our final Beer Festival Evening. Our famous Chef introduced some typical German cuisine for that week’s event, and from the feedback, our members have requested to keep certain dishes on the menu, Eisbein, being one of the favourites. Your input on our menu items is most welcome.

Christmas is only 8 weeks away, and this year we will be having Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day. The details are on our web site, please don’t forget to book for this exciting event.

On the 17th of November we are having a Country & Western Theme Evening and on the 22nd of November we are having a Greek Evening for our member events, look forward to seeing you there.

Top of the day to you all!

Firstly a huge thank you to Lexus Culemborg Cape Town for their very generous sponsorship of the Lexus Estate Challenge. I thank all our Members who competed and supported this fantastic competition, which is growing year on year on our member events calendar.

The final was played on the 20th October and the overall winners were Sharon Watkins and Geraldine Diliberto who will carry the Club flag at Pinnacle Point later in the year .Well done Ladies!

On that note for the Ladies, they are top of the log in the Western Province Ladies “A” League, keep it up girls and bring home the Cup!

Rule of the Month:
Question: Ball Moved by Golf Cart Shared by Two Players?

Under the Definition of “Equipment” , equipment includes a golf cart, whether or not motorized. If two players share a golf cart, the cart and everything in it are deemed to be the equipment of the player whose ball is involved; except that, when the cart is being moved by one of the players, the cart and everything in it are deemed to be the players equipment.
Thus, for example, in a singles match, if A and B are sharing a cart and the cart moves A’s ball which was at rest, A would be penalized one stroke if he was driving the cart (Rule 18-2a). B would be penalized one stroke if he was driving the cart, unless the incident occurred during a search.

NB: So be careful when driving or parking the golf carts during competitions.

Rainfall: Oct 07-20mm: Total ytd 517mm for the 2007 year.

Over and above our normal day to day maintenance routine we are currently also busy with the following projects:

Post and Rail:
The program of spraying the Kikuyu out of the fynbos along the post & rail has now been implemented. We are still in the process of removing all dead kikuyu from the fynbos.

Greens:
All greens are in the process of being lightly top dressed and fertilised.
Greens will also be fertilised with 18-3-18.
Soil and water samples will be taken within the next two weeks.

Tees & Fairways:
The tees that need to be laser levelled has been measured and we are waiting for a quote to have them laser levelled.
New tee markers should be in place by the end of the month.
We are in the process of hollow tyning and fertilising the tees.
All fairways will be fertilised.

Kikuyu:
The test plot to eradicate kikuyu out of the cynodon will be sprayed.

Landscape Areas:
Landscaping has been completed behind the 10th green.
The back of the 14th green, a number of trees have been planted.
Weather permitting areas of fynbos at no 15 and 17 we will be seeded with veld grasses.

Projects:
• The eradicating of the kikuyu from the fynbos will be an ongoing project..
• A number of bunkers will be revetted the same as the bunker at no 5.
• New equipment should be arriving during Dec07 – Jan08.
• A number of low trajectory nozzles will be fitted to sprinklers to counteract the wind.

From 1st November 2007 the driving range will again be open on Mondays, and the closing times will be extended due to later sunsets.

Hours of Operation will be as follows:

Daily from opening of the Leisure Centre to 18h30

Please may I once again request that no range balls be removed from the driving range for other use.
