Club & Golf Operations Closed on Christmas Day & New Years Day

· Amanda Forknall GENERAL MANAGER

Christmas is just around the corner, I cannot believe we’re almost at the end of 2007.

November has been an exciting month for the club, we hosted a few golf events including the ladies league and the Reach for A Dream event. Radio Good Hope broadcast live from the course during their Golf Day on the 28th November, and held a live interview with our Club Manager Tony Louw, during their afternoon show. Their enthusiasm for Atlantic Beach is fantastic, which makes us feel very honoured, to be part of such a dynamic venue.

The Club Managers Association of Finland paid a visit, and after a very challenging round of golf joined us for lunch in the Sunset Terrace Restaurant. It was interesting exchanging ideas, and listening to their views of their golfing experience in the Cape.

Our last Supper Club for 2007 took place on the 27th November, and was a great success. One of our staff members Lorraine Erasmus did the décor for the occasion; her talents did not go unnoticed. The venue looked stunning for the evening. The next Supper Club will be held on the 29th January 2008, after Christmas.

The club has its Christmas Lunch event planned this year on Christmas Day, the details are on our web site. If you haven’t booked already the tickets are selling very fast, there are only a couple of seats left.

For those of you that want to spoil your loved ones for Christmas, pay the Sports Centre a visit, not only do we have eye-catching merchandise, but we also have green fee vouchers for sale. All gifts bought will be gift wrapped especially for you.

New Years Eve is also selling out fast. This year’s theme is The Mafia, so get your gear together, and put on those dancing shoes, and dance the night away to the music of our LIVE BAND ‘AXENT’.

TOAST IN THE NEW YEAR, AT THE PARTY OF THE YEAR AT ATLANTIC BEACH GOLF CLUB.

Regards, Amanda

· Allen Bland GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE

Rainfall: Nov 07-23mm: Total ytd 540mm for the 2007 year.

Over and above our normal day to day maintenance routine we are currently also busy with the following projects:

Post and Rail:
The program of spraying the Kikuyu out of the fynbos along the post & rail has now been implemented. We are still in the process of removing all dead kikuyu from the fynbos.

Greens:
All greens have been lightly top dressed and fertilised with 18-3-18.
Greens will be lightly verticutted next week.
Soil and water samples will be taken within the next two weeks.

Tees & Fairways:
The quote has been received for the laser levelling of tees.
New tee markers should be in place by the end of the month.
All tees have been hollowtyned and fertilised.
All fairways will be fertilised.

Kikuyu:
The test plot to eradicate kikuyu out of the cynodon has been sprayed.

Landscape Areas:
Fynbos at no 15 and 17 have been prepared and weather permitting areas will be seeded with veld grasses.

Projects:
  • The eradicating of the kikuyu from the fynbos will be an ongoing project.
  • A number of bunkers will be revetted the same as the bunker at no 5.
  • New equipment should be arriving during Dec 07 – Jan 08.
  • A number of low trajectory nozzles have been fitted to sprinklers to counteract the wind, on No 15 fairway.
  • Main pump in golf course pump house has been overhauled.
  • Main drive to the pumps has been problematic over the past month, but has now been repaired.
  • Due to power failures the sewerage works was not able to clean water going to the effluent dam, therefore the rubbish clogs up our filter system and we are looking into a way of cleaning the dam.

Golf Course Superintendent

· Claire Jones LEISURE CENTRE

It is that time of the year that everybody is looking forward to the festivities ahead ; but before that materializes, I would like to thank the following key people who have contributed greatly to the daily life of movement of members at the Leisure Centre :

Yoga Classes :
• Tuesdays and Thursdays
Well done to June Radmall who manages to create a sense of calmness during her sessions on these 2 days.

The lingering sense of incense during these sessions has become a trade mark and a pleasure for all who attend these sessions. June, thank you for your commitment and for the aura which you manage to transmit.

Adult Art Lessons :
• Mondays and Wednesdays
Thank you Rosemary for being an inspiration to all those who you teach. Your dedication and creativity is truly amazing. Watching your learners as they eagerly follow their instincts must be rewarding for your efforts.

Jutsu :
• Tuesdays and Thursdays
Jerome Peterson - During the short time I have been present at the Leisure Centre I have seen small children being transformed into little "Jackie Chang's" with vocal chords blaring as they display their martial arts capabilities (flexibility astounding . . . . is June training them secretly?)

Little Fingers :
Zahn Puren is extremely dedicated and patient as she teaches young toddlers the joys of painting, mosaics, beading and generally the art of enjoying creativity.

Please note that bookings for the above mentioned for 2008 can be made at the Leisure Centre.

As from the end of November 2007, the following will be available in addition to the norm - cake, hot dogs (which should be most welcome to parents and hungry youngsters) as well as a "Slush Puppy" machine ! As of now, the Blue Mountain Room will only be available for children's parties - all enquiries can be made at the Leisure Centre.

In conclusion, Atlantic Beach Golf Club's first priority is to ensure that all it's members are made to feel very special and at home at all times.

This can be achieved by valued-added input from our members with regards to ultimate success of the Leisure Centre.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!

Claire & the team at the Leisure Centre

· Karina Verhoustraete FOOD AND BEVERAGE

November has been a fantastic “Golfing” month with only a Greek evening as members event which although not too well attended, still was extremely well complemented on.

Chef Martin is back from his “Caribbean Tour”, hopefully well rested for the upcoming events.
In his absence Louis, Nancy and Jeff did a fantastic job, showing their culinary expertise.

We were fully booked for our last “Supper Club” for 2007 on the 27th of November, this time with “Perdeberg Wine Estate” which was an exciting end to a fantastic year of “supper dining “at Atlantic Beach.

Please remember to book your Christmas and or New Years parties on time as bookings are flying in. We wouldn't want you to be disappointed!

I take this opportunity, on behalf of the Food and Beverage department, to wish you and your families a Happy and Blessed Christmas.

Please forward any requests to our department on foodandbev@atlanticbeach.co.za.

Karina
Food & Beverage Manager
