Well winter is well on the way, and it's time to fish out all those winter woollies.


In my last newsletter I mentioned that the Sports Centre had sourced some exquisite merchandise. It's really worth taking a look at their range of jerseys.

The Golf Course has been blessed with good rainfall, but not without problems. We are presently putting in more irrigation to eliminate the water from settling on parts of the course, in order to keep it in tip top condition.

During the month of May we hosted our annual charity event 'Celebration Week'. I am proud to announce that with the incredible joint efforts of our dynamic team we managed to raise R 112, 249 - the highest target ever achieved. The cheque was presented to Pauline De Klerk from the charity SALT (Sharing Abundant Life Together). I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our Sponsors, Members and Guests who took part in the event and making it an extremely success one.

We have some exciting events planned going forward, please take a look at our website (www.atlanticbeachgolfclub.co.za) and notice boards in the foyer for up to date information.

One event we have started recently is a Kids Cooking Club for all our little members. This has been very popular and we hope to continue through the months ahead.

The open fire is lit in our Sunset Terrace restaurant making it warm and cosy. For those who haven't visited yet to try our new menus and to pick wines from our new fine wine lists, we invite you to come along and join us for an enjoyable evening in our snug, relaxed environment.

Top of the day to you all!

What a fantastic and successful Celebration Week of golf we had in May. It started off on Monday with the Golf Marathon. Two of our members played 100 holes on the day - Stuart Litchfield and Gary Hunt. Well done to the rest of the participants who found aches and pains the next day where they never knew they had muscles!

Thursday Toy's and Teddy's Day was hugely supported as always and thank you to Murphy the Meercat from Ratanga Junction for adding to the festivities (have a look at the pictures on the website).

Saturday's Main Event could not have being more successful even if we had to write a script. I would like to thank the entire Atlantic Beach Team for all the effort and long hours they put in to make the week what it was - Five Star. The Club raised over R112 000.00 for S.A.L.T. and lets hope we can improve on this next year for people less fortunate than ourselves.

League Competitions
Men's Western Province 1st League: We qualified for the Semi-Finals but unfortunately we lost to Milnerton, better luck next year chaps. Thank you to all league players who gave up valuable time to represent Atlantic Beach Golf Club.

Rainfall:
April: 74mm & May to date: 76mm: Total ytd 194mm for the 2007 year.

Over and above our normal day to day maintenance routine we are currently also busy with the following projects:

Post and Rail:
Spraying the Kikuyu out of the fynbos along post & rail will be an ongoing process.

Greens:
The elpher fertilise programme is still in progress. Greens will be lightly sanded towards the end of the month. The fertigation system should be up & running by the end of month, and then all fertilizing during the winter months will be done via the fertigation system.

Tees & Fairways:
The fertilizing of all tees is completed. All fertilization of fairways and semi roughs has been completed. During the winter months all tees, fairways & semi roughs will be fertilized through he fertigation system.

Kikuyu:
The test plot to eradicate kikuyu out of the cynodon will be sprayed through the winter.

Landscape Areas:
The fynbos areas at no 15 are in the process of being landscaped with veld grasses.

Projects:
 · The bunkers at No 15 green and No 3 fairway and green will be re-shaped.
 · The bunker at the driving range, we will be trying a new concept for the revetting of the bunker.
 · New drainage has been put in on the right hand side of No 2 and No 3 fairways
   and left side of No 7 green.
 · All drainage systems have been checked and are all in working condition.
 · The eradicating of the kikuyu from the fynbos will be an ongoing project.

The month of June comes with a variety of different activities being held here at the Leisure Centre. We have something happening in the Blue Mountain Room every day.

Art classes with Rosemary continue on Mondays & Wednesdays, the times are as follows:

Yoga is back on the calendar on Tuesdays & Thursdays with 1 time slot from 09h30 - 11h00 & normal booking procedures apply. For those of you who don't know, we take the first 7 bookings for each class, thereafter, your name & telephone number will go on the waiting list to replace any last minute cancellations. You will be notified accordingly.

Some exciting news for the ladies, Belly Dancing lessons have started in the Leisure Centre's Blue Mountain Room on Friday mornings from 09h30-10h30 so come on down and join in the FUN!

Little Fingers is back with a Friday morning time slot in the Blue Mountain Room from
10h45 - 11h30 for toddlers aged between 12 months & 36 months.
