· Craig Nell CLUB MANAGER

On the 1st of December, 335 days of the year would have passed and we will only have 30 days left of 2006. Scary when you think about it.
Have you begun buying your Festive presents yet? Or begun your preparation for that special time with family and friends?

As many of you have seen, the course is beginning to look fantastic and we are extremely happy with the progress that has been made. Our five star assessors were very impressed with the golf course and the detailed explanation given by Allen Bland, Tony Louw and our course designer Mark Muller was well received, despite the 54km/h wind that was blowing on the day. Well Done Team!!!
Our chances of receiving the five star award from the Compleat Golfer magazine looks very good at this stage. But you know what they say - don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

We have two member events left for 2006, they are the Monthly Medal on the 2nd of December and our Sunday Christmas Lunch with Santa on the 10th of December. Both promise to be filled with the added extras that make your Club the best in the West. Put your names down and come and join us.

The Leisure Centre has begun its summer upswing. We are hosting an underprivileged children’s party at the Leisure Centre on the 5th of December, where the kids will receive complimentary burgers, chips and cool drinks along with a complimentary soft toy. Thereafter they will spend some fun time on the jumping castle, before being taken back to their home.

Our planning is already starting to take shape for the New Year’s tournaments and our Celebration Week. Yes, can you believe that’s around the corner? We are planning some great member events and our calendar is getting busier by the day.

As I reach the end of my short report, I thank you for your continued support and we look forward to a wonderful Festive Season.

See you at the Clubhouse.

Kind Regards
Craig Nell

Top of the day to you all!!!

The Harry Solomon League is once again complete for another year and we were very unfortunate not to make the semi-final. The team did not start great but we had heart at the end and won three and halved one out of four games. The pair that was unbeaten was Keith Turton and Kieron Kent, well done to both of you on an outstanding performance. A very big thank you must also go to the Members who had not played Harry Solomon League before and when we were short of players, stepped in and did the Club proud. Don’t worry boys next year is our year.

The Patriots Trophy was played on the 12th November, this is a competition that is played annually between Members that are South African Citizens vs. Members from other Countries and what a wonderful day was had by all! For the past few years S.A. have beaten the rest of the World, but with a few local imports the rest of the World triumphed by 34.5 to 33.5 in a Ryder Cup format. Holy smoke! This is like our RUGBY - we can’t even win at golf either

The Graumann Cup was hosted on the 19th November at Atlantic Beach by Western Province Women’s Golf Union. This is a mixed Greensome’s format and has been played for over the past seventy two years, which makes this one of the most prestigious golf events on the calendar.
We are proud to announce that the Trophy was won by Atlantic Beach. There was a tie between the mixed pairs of Mark Muller & Geraldine Diliberto and Nico Kuyler & Melanie Frylinck all from Atlantic Beach Golf Club with a score of 65.8 Nett. We really made sure that the trophy would stay at Atlantic Beach with both pairs sharing the spoils. This is the first time in history that the trophy has been shared and the first time the club has won it.
Thank you to Western Province Women’s Golf Union for an enjoyable day.

Yours in Golf
Tony Louw

· Allen Bland GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE REPORT
NOVEMBER 2006

Rainfall: 17mm rain this month which brings our total to 326mm for the year.

Over and above our normal day to day maintenance routine we are currently also busy with the following projects:

Surrounds:
Have started cutting the surrounds and approaches to 20m in front of greens at 6mm, to allow a better surface.

Post and Rail:
Levelling, straightening of posts and neatening up of fynbos along post & rail will be an ongoing process.

Greens:
Number 1 & 8 greens are now in operation, and No. 2 & 7 greens will be operational towards the end of November.
The results of the soil samples have come back, and there is still a shortage of magnesium and potassium. Fertilizing programs are already in process to try and rectify the problem.

Tees & Fairways:
Fertilizing of the tees and fairways have commenced on 27th Nov 06.

Kikuyu:
We seem to be having good results so far with the test plot to spray kikuyu out of the cynodon between #10 and #18 Fairways. Will be doing a follow up spray next week.

Landscape Areas:
The North West side of clubhouse is completed. Thanks to Eric from Blooming Nice for great ideas on what plants we could use, to give more colour at different times of the year.
Busy landscaping gardens next to sales office and walkway from member’s car park to clubhouse.

Effluent Dam:
Have had no problem with the effluent dam since it has been cleaned out.

The Cats Tip of the month:
Now that the approaches are shorter
Leave the wedge in the back and use the putter.

· Lorraine Erasmus LEISURE CENTRE

Hi to all our Members!

The Leisure Centre is getting very busy and we are looking forward to the holidays. We still have a few spaces left for the Potjiekos Competition on the 3rd of December and if you do not want to make up a team, we still invite you to come and join in the fun and taste the Potjies. Please book with Member Service Centre before the 30th November 2006. You can get all the details on our web site.

In December we will have a tennis clinic for the kids. Please contact Lizanne Davidson on
084 554 5015 or Brigitte Fourie – 082 336 8852 for more information.

The Adult Art lessons are doing very well and we will be starting a new beginner’s class and evening classes in the New Year. For information please contact Rosemary on 082 5150 339.

If parents are thinking of booking kiddies parties at the Leisure Centre please do it in advance as the weekends are filling up quickly. You can contact me on 021 553 2223 for bookings.

I would like to stress to all parents to inform their children that the Leisure Centre staff are not allowed to let kids buy sweets and cool drinks without a membership card. We will not charge anything to the parent’s cards if they do not have the actual card with them. If children have got their parents’ card and want to buy something, we accept that the parent has given them permission to use it.

Please make sure that you bring your membership card with you when you want to visit the Leisure Centre and that children under the age of 13 are supervised at all times.

Thanking You,
Lorraine Erasmus
Leisure Centre Supervisor
