· Craig Nell CLUB MANAGER

Before I begin my first newsletter to you, I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate my friend Francois Brand for the fantastic job he has done at the Club.

He decided to resign from the Club Managers position as his work and family commitments have increased considerably with the birth of his new baby daughter Karla Brand.

Congratulations, Elise and Francois you are all three in our hearts.

Thank you for the warm reception and the wishes of good luck. In the short time I have been here I realize what a special place Atlantic Beach Golf Club has grown to be. The kind words of encouragement and support have been overwhelming.

Thank You.

We are in the process of building a strong Club team and the decision to take many of our outsourced departments in house has allowed us to explore many new and exciting ideas. You are our most loyal guests and we have taken up the challenge of improving our standards to the Five Star facility we are. I thank each of you for your support in the past and I promise you my passion for the new challenges ahead.

In celebration of our members and homeowners we are hosting our "First Party" being on July 1 2006.

The Club's Heartbeat Awards program certificates will be handed out as well as the Monthly Medal prize giving.

Our live entertainment will feature none other than Francois du Plessis who has on many occasions rocked you till the early hours of the morning. We will host a culinary theater where we will showcase on the spot cooking and have our friendly waiters butler some tasty treats. Come and join us on the night to celebrate a new chapter. Please leave your name with the Member Service Centre so we can cater for your needs.

Our "new look" and member focus will be the start of a campaign to hone in on the attention to detail. We will be launching a new menu in the Legends member Bar and The Sunset Terrace. Our new Chef " Joe" (Jorg) has joined us; his vast experience will aid us to bring you the quality we have been missing. We will concentrate on consistency and many standards and procedures have been put into place as we speak to ensure that we follow the needs of our most loyal customers you.

We have many exciting ideas that are beginning to come to the surface and we hope that you will be there to share them with us.

Our Sport Centre team has done a wonderful job in organizing our shop. The displays have been great and the new merchandise we have purchased has sold well. We are in the process of drawing up a Golf 2006 Calendar that will showcase all our golf events till the end of the year. All the details will be posted on our notice board giving you the information well in advance. This allows you to set time aside for those special golf events. We have removed the fynbos that surrounds the cart barn area and this has allowed us to improve our vision of the car park and has neatened the appearance of the Golf entrance, additional irrigation was fitted to ensure a green effect throughout the year.

Compliments to Lorraine and her team for organizing a very successful Heart Beat Program for this year at the Leisure Centre. I am pleased to see that our homeowners and members have utilized this program to their benefit and the usage of this facility has increased each year. Should you wish to sponsor any one of the heart beat tiers for our upcoming year please contact us and we would be glad to assist in the communication of your help. Thanks.

We experienced a very hot and windy summer season, and many areas on our course did not benefit from our irrigation. As a result the course has suffered. As the winter months surround us we have the added challenge of the grass becoming dormant as the soil temperature drops below 15 degrees. Also with the high calcium content that the soil carries, the grass battles to feed itself despite the high volume of fertilizer that surrounds it. These are but a few of the challenges we face on the course.

With the aid of Golf Data and Allen Bland we have set about a comprehensive course improvement program that involves a number of actions that will allow our course to be in the Championship condition it is accustomed to Please bear with us as we aid Mother Nature in this repair process. When summer arrives many of our actions will show from our winter program.

We have recently installed a new administrative program in the Club that will aid us in facilitating our business. We have encountered many hurdles in the system and have found ways to sort them out. This unfortunately has been a time consuming exercise that has caused both our members and staff endless problems. I am glad to report that there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are making headway. Please bear with us as we solve the few remaining problems. Thank you for you patience.

I am happy to announce that we have a new team member that has joined us. Kristen Maurer joins us as an Assistant Function Coordinator and member relations officer She will aid us with all our member functions, golf days and day-to-day operations of the Clubhouse. Welcome.

Our search continues for a Membership manager as Tanya has decided to pursue her own business interests. I am happy to announce that we have over 1100 golfing members and 2400 Social and golfing members. Should you know of someone that is interested in a golf membership let us know. We have various membership programs that we run on a month-to-month basis which offer a variety of special discounts.

The upkeep of the Clubhouse will continue over the next few months as many of the fittings and features were imported it has been difficult to find suitable substitutes.

Last but not least we urge you to pay your subscription fees for the new financial year at your earliest convenience. The invoices have been posted and you should receive them shortly. We are very proud to announce that we have one of the lowest attrition rates in South Africa and as we continually strive to improve in all areas many of our members will agree that Atlantic Beach is a Club that is the home away from home!

Our feature Clubhouse magazine, The Atlantic Tide has been posted to you. It has many wonderful features and colourful photographs. Should you not receive one please pick one up at the Member Service Centre. Enjoy!

Once again Thank you for all your support and it is a pleasure to be back at the Club.

Thank You
See you on the 1st of July 2006

· Allen Bland GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE

The Cape is renowned for its stormy winters but winter on the West Coast can produce some of our best weather. The first 2 weeks in June were possibly the best we have had all year and perfect for golf. So far we have had 175mm rain for the season so we are just past the halfway mark to our average which is only 300mm per annum.

Over and above our normal day to day maintenance routine we are currently also busy with the following projects:

Pathways: The reconstruction of the pathway from No. 3 green to No. 4 tee has been delayed due to work on the 18th but will commence in July. Certain areas on fairways No. 1 and 9 were experiencing growth problems and these have now been resodded together with an area on No. 15 green. Weak turf on Holes 4 and 6 will also be replaced. We are also taking advantage of winter to clean out the irrigation reservoir and to service and overhaul 3 of the 6 pumps that supply irrigation to the golf course in the summer months. The entire golf course with the exception of the greens was fertilised over 2 days this week with a total of 4.25 tons of fertliser.

Surrounds: The re levelling of the surrounds around No. 18 has been completed and seeded and many compliments have been received from the golfers. The next greens to be done will be No. 11 and 14.

The Cats Tip of the month: I have spent many hours in the "dark room" in my quest for the perfect swing but golf is as much about the mental as it is about the physical. Golfers of all abilities must not underestimate the importance of a game plan. As I often tell my friends you cannot just thrash around for 4 hours on a Thursday afternoon and expect to walk off with a decent score.

If you want to score well you must have the right mental approach and please, bring a game plan.

· Tony Louw SPORTS CENTRE

Top of the day to you all!!

Firstly to Francois & Elize Brand congrats on a beautiful baby girl, from the Sports Centre Staff .May the bundle of joy fill your house with happiness.

A warm welcome to Craig Nell or should we say "welkom terug", as Craig said the other day "Good to see the same old faces", welcome back Craig!

One of the attractions of the game of golf to me, is the game is played to a set of universal rules and codes of conduct, wherever we might play this wonderful game of ours. Then I ask myself how can golfers not turn up for their tee-off time or be late on the tee? With the slightest bit of wind or rain we have half of the golfers withdraw from a competition. The sad part is that you have a poor fellow golfer who has slogged it out in the office the whole week, just itching to get on the course and could not get a tee-off time because it was full when he booked to play ( sorry Ernie, members get first option).

So come on guys let's play the game and if you can't, give somebody else the chance who wants too.

In the next month or so we will be implementing a pay bag tag system. When you pay for green fees or you are prepaid you will receive an identification bag tag every time you play golf, to show that you have been through the Sports Centre. The reason is that we have found golfers slipping onto the course without paying for green fees. An example of this is that one person comes in to pay and then collects his mate in the car park and onto the course they go. When the marshal/starter asks for payment slips, we could have ten different excuses. So we are trying to eradicate all of this unpleasant situations.

Yours in Golf
Tony Louw

· Andre du Toit FOOD AND BEVERAGE

Good Day Ladies and Gentlemen. As mentioned in the previous report of April, we hosted a Mexican Evening in May. I am glad to be able to report back that this was a big success. Supper Club for May also went well and was fortunate enough to have Meerendal Wines for the evening. A Great thank you to Meerendal Wine Estate. With regards to June's Supper club, we are fortunate to have Nitida for the evening and a great thank you to Craig Nell for arranging this.

As everybody will be aware, Superior Hospitality and Atlantic Beach's paths will separate at the end of June and I would like to on behalf of myself and my team, thank all the members of Atlantic Beach for their ongoing support during the time that we were fortunate to be associated with Atlantic Beach.

Kind Regards

Andre du Toit
