Season begins for us in November and all the staff are looking forward to the challenges ahead. Our revenue generating departments namely Golf Operations and Food and Beverage have very busy schedules.

With the seasons becoming warmer, the changes on the course have been fantastic. From a few months ago to our present condition our improvements has come in leaps and bounds. Although still not ideal at this moment, the leading indicators are very positive indeed. Our troublesome greens have benefited greatly from the sprigging projects undertaken.
We have seen a remarkable improvement in all our member functions been staged at the moment, from the food quality to entertainment provided the response has been sold out. I urge you once again to try our menus at the Sunset Terrace.

Keep an eye out for our great membership programs that are presently on offer. Get your family and friends involved and enjoy the summer on the course with them.

The Leisure Centre has begun to get extremely busy particularly over weekends, as the kids have slowly started to venture into the water. Don’t forget the Potjiekos competition that is in December, get your teams together and submit your names to Lorraine.

The warm welcome has been great at the front entrance with security and the Member Service Centre always willing to aid and give a welcome smile. Please always be aware of your personal belongings, as the Clubs activities will increase over the next 60 days. Temptations will offer opportunities.

Most of our building capital expense projects are nearing completion. With the new signage, retaining wall and the new coat of paint on the Clubhouse roof completing the project. Our Clubhouse is beginning to look fantastic.

The golf season has arrived, what a great time it is for the Club, Members and staff alike. We kick off the season with the new Day Breaker 9 holes plus breakfast at 6am Monday to Friday starting November 1st.
All golf bookings for our Corporate Days will be done by Bernie Jacobs from now on at the Sports Centre or if you would like to book golf for friends and family please contact her so she can attend to all your needs.

Congratulations to the winners of the Lexus Estate Challenge for this year, Nonda Kosmatos and Tate Eshelby. They will be representing Atlantic Beach at Pinnacle Point on 23 November, good luck guys and make us proud.

Congratulations to the winners of the Inaugural Cup for 2006, your name will be on the Members recognition Board for life, which is a great achievement by any Member to have his or her name on any Club Board as a sense of recognition for good golf played on that day.
The next big Member Event is The Patriots Trophy on 12th November, the format will be six holes Betterball, six holes Foursomes ,six holes Match play .This is going to be a lot of Fun, so please put your name down in the Sports Centre if you would like to join us for Fun and a Fantastic Sunday Lunch afterwards.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE REPORT
OCTOBER 2006

Rainfall: 24mm rain this month which brings our total to 308mm for the year.

Over and above our normal day to day maintenance routine we are currently also busy with the following projects:

Surrounds:
The surrounds of No. 11 and 14 will be done after the hollow tyning programme.

Post and Rail:
The tops of every 10 to 15 posts have being painted green, to indicate that the area over the post & rail is an environmental sensitive area, and no one is allowed in these areas.

Greens:
All greens have been hollow tyned, top dressed and fertilized weekly.
The Elpher fertilizer programme is completed and soil samples have been taken.
The problem greens at No’s.1, 2, 7 and 8 are showing a great improvement, due to hollow tyning, fertilizing and warmer weather conditions. The bad areas have been plugged with gulf green.

Tees:
Hollow tyning& fertilizing of the tees on the front nine will be completed by the 3rd November 2006.

Kikuyu:
Now that the soil temperatures are up, have done a test plot to spray kikuyu out of the cynodon between #10 and #18 Fairways.

Landscape Areas:
The North West side of the clubhouse is in the process of being landscaped. Have approached Eric from Blooming Nice for some ideas on what plants we can use, to give more colour at different times of the year.

Effluent Dam:
Have had no problem with the effluent dam since it has been cleaned out.


The Cats Tip of the month:
Due to the fertilizer program and irrigation, the greens are very soft.
So please make sure that you repair pitch marks.

Dear Members,

Thanks to all the members that support us with Kiddies Parties and Year-End Functions. At the moment the Leisure Centre is very busy with functions and lots of kiddies activities for the summer. Norah Venter started her swimming lessons in October – if you want you kids to join, please give her a call on 082 899 9663.
