| ATLANTIC BEACH GOLF CLUB FIVE STAR GOLFING EXPERIENCE |
| Jimmy Martignone CLUB CAPTAIN | Hi all
Here is the latest news regarding our club and course:
Course Maintenance - I'm really glad to announce that Allen Bland has accepted the offer as Atlantic Beach Course Superintendent.
- Bill Taylor and Allen Usher have pledged that the Golf Data management fee will be ploughed straight back into course and surrounds - thanks guys it's a huge gesture and we really appreciate it.
- Mark Muller has been tasked to install/lay drainage systems on holes 2, 7 and 8. This is not an easy task due to the rock layer under ground, but Mark has come up with a solution that will work.
- I hope you all like the new retainer walls around the club house, I think it gives great definition to the paths - new signage will go up as soon as the cladding is completed.
- How did we ever cope without the new cart park - only now do we realise how difficult and congested the access was before - well done Tony.
- Plans are under way to find a suitable area for another Waterloo on the front nine, this will most certainly improve the putting from the 6th hole onwards. (No more shakes from holding in!!)
Sports Centre - The players in last Thursday's competition were pleasantly surprised with the prizes on offer - meat packs to the value of: 1st R300, 2nd R200, 3rd R100 and R70 for nearest the pins. This will be the standard prizes from now on regardless of the number of players in the competition. 2-Club vouchers will be deposited into your account, so you can spend it at any of the pay points at the club.
- Please contact Tony Louw, or myself, should you be interested in corporate sponsorship for our competition days.
- The markers for the next monthly medal competition will be as follows:
- H/caps 0 to 9 - BLACK
- H/caps 10 to 18 - WHITE
- H/caps 19 to 30 - WHITE
- Ladies (All) - RED
- Seniors - GOLD
This might not suit everyone, but please bare with us until we find a happy medium that grows the monthly medal field. - There will be complimentary snacks and a drink at the next Monthly Medal prize giving, make sure you book your tee-time.
- The new bookings software will soon be able to allow Live internet bookings. This will hopefully cut down drastically on double bookings etc.
- There are complimentary Atlantic Beach Local Rules booklets available in the Sports Centre. This wonderfully put together booklet covers most local rules applicable to Atlantic Beach - any donations given will go towards Junior Golf.
- I would like to see the qualification to play off the senior tees done on age only and not age and a certain handicap. Remember it is the choice of the individual whether he plays off the senior markers or not. I'd like our senior players to give me feedback regarding this issue.
- Steve Tripney has unfortunately already uncovered quite a few handicap irregularities and the necessary steps will be taken regarding these members.
General - I'm well aware of the many accounts queries you've had over the last couple of months, but please be assured that Helen is working very hard to see to all the issues at hand.
- Slavena was employed to canvas and welcome new members. Please contact her at the club house regarding your referral gift.
- Congratulations to Hendrik Prins, he was awarded the Team Player of the month for August. Recognising the amazing effort made by our wonderful staff is very important and can only improve our service to you and our visitors.
Please feel free to contact me on clubcaptain@atlanticbeach.co.za and let me know how we can improve our service to you. Yours in golf,

Chris and Sheldon are teeing off on a foggy par-3 17th hole at Atlantic Beach. They can see the flag, but not the green. Chris hits his ball into the fog and then Sheldon does the same. They proceed to the green to find their balls. One ball is about 6 feet from the cup while the other found its way into the cup for a hole-in-one. Both were playing the same type of balls, Titleist 2, and couldn't determine which ball was which. They decided to ask Tony Louw (Club Pro) to decide their fate. After congratulating both golfers on their fine shots, Tony asks: "Which one of you used the orange one?" A priest rushed from church one day to keep a golf date. He was halfway down the first fairway, waiting to hit his second shot, when he heard 'Fore!' and a ball slammed into his back. Soon Keith, the golfer who had made the drive was on the scene to offer his apologies. When the priest assured him that he was all right, Keith smiled. Thank goodness, Father! he exclaimed. I've been playing this game for twenty years, and now I can finally tell my friends that I've hit my first holy one!" |
