Miqlat, “Place of Refuge and Hope”, is a beacon of love and safety for children and families in the Western
Cape, South Africa. Many of them are struggling to cope with poverty, HIV/Aids, poor nutrition, poor
education and long-term unemployment.
Located in Paarl, Miqlat is a Christian community upliftment organisation - the name reflecting the aims of
the organisation that was started by Hester Veldsman in 1994. The Miqlat team concentrates on delivering
numerous community development programs and is supported by donations from local and international
benefactors. Full-time staff is assisted by community members and short-term international volunteers.
Miqlat is about people’s dignity being restored through love, physical support, educational programs, and
training of life skills and leadership.
